Organic chemistry is near to entering its third century, if one dates the Wöhler experiment (1828) as the starting point. Nevertheless, there are many significant findings being continuously reported, leading to new or more efficient ways to arrive at organic products of interest, often involving a catalytic process. Therefore, it is also necessary to deepen the theoretical insights into these synthetic processes, also explaining and predicting the properties of the compounds obtained. Novel organic compounds that previously could not be obtained often have unprecedented properties and may be applied in a wide range of fields.
In this light, potential topics of the new journal Organics include, but are not limited to:
  • Organic synthesis
  • Development of synthetic methodology
  • Theoretical organic chemistry
  • Physical organic chemistry
  • Supramolecular and macromolecular chemistry
  • Heterocyclic chemistry
  • Organocatalysis
  • Bioorganic chemistry
  • Organometallic chemistry
  • Functional organic materials
On the other hand, contributions regarding isolation, characterization of natural products, and with a focus on medicinal chemistry are considered to be rather within the scope of our “older sister” MDPI journal Molecules.
Organics is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal, and I am happy to report that we have been able to organize a team of excellent scientists on our Editorial Board. Indeed, on behalf of this Editorial Board I welcome you to submit your manuscript to Organics—this could be under the form of a full research paper, a critical review article, or a short communication. The emphasis is placed on new or significantly improved research results in the field of organic chemistry. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical results in as much detail as possible.
With your support, we hope that our new journal can contribute to the further development of our research field. We would welcome your comments and ideas on how to improve this journal.
Publisher’s Note: MDPI stays neutral with regard to jurisdictional claims in published maps and institutional affiliations.
