A decisive challenge facing our generation is the continuing development of climate change conditions in a context of the ongoing expansion of the world population and energy demand. In this scenario, there is an urgent need to produce energy from renewable sources in an energy-efficient, cost-competitive and environmentally friendly way.
Biomass is an important renewable source that entails any substance of organic matrix, animal or vegetable, which has not undergone any fossilization process, and which can be used as a source of fuel or energy [1].
As one of the top four scholarly journal publishers in the world [2,3], and celebrating its 25th anniversary this year [4], we are glad to announce the addition of Biomass (ISSN: 2673-8783) [5] to complement our portfolio of journals specializing in Environmental and Earth Sciences [6]. With this new open-access scientific journal, we aim to disseminate groundbreaking research covering all aspects of the provision and preparation of biomass, as well as all possible downstream processing steps for the environmentally sound and economically viable production of energy and chemical products.
Biomass will be published quarterly online, and we welcome researchers with a focus on the technical, chemical and systemic aspects of the biomass conversion processes and biorefinery to contribute to the development of this platform, with the shared goal of accelerating the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field. As with the other MDPI journals, we will maintain a fast and rigorous peer re-view process for this new journal. We hope that you will enjoy publishing with us.
