Prof. Dr. Colin Binns

Colin Binns MBBS MPH PhD (Hon Inje) FRACGP FAFOEM FAFPHM, John Curtin, Distinguished Emeritus Professor, Curtin University. Graduated in medicine from the University of Western Australia and worked in hospitals in Perth and in Papua New Guinea. In PNG, he became interested in nutrition and completed an MPH at Harvard. He held for 21 years the position of Foundation Head of the School of Public Health, Curtin. He was Vice-President of the Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health for five years; Foundation Head of the National Drug Research Institute, Curtin University; held several visiting professorial positions including China and Japan; served on 21 committees of the National Health and Medical Research Commission, including Australian Dietary Guidelines and Infant Feeding Guidelines. His awards include: Senior Western Australian of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award for Medical Research by Research Australia and Fellow of the Nutrition Society of Australia, Asia Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society and the Dieticians Association of Australia. His current research interests include breastfeeding, international health and public health nutrition. He has more than 600 publications in nutrition and international public health.
