Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Fertigation has the ability to increase nutritional efficiency and can reduce the dose of fertilizers compared to conventional fertilization and maintain the same productivity. The nutritional efficiency with fertigation is increased by increasing the dynamics of nutrient–root contact, favoring the root absorption of nutrients. In addition, it enables the optimal splitting of fertilizers following the plant’s nutrient uptake curve, maximizing its use by the plant. Sources of traditional and especially new soluble fertilizers should be considered for using fertigation to maximize crop yields.

It is important to consider optimized irrigation management to maximize water use efficiency and minimize localized salinity problems with the use of fertigation. In this context, the management of all technical and economic factors involved in the practice of fertigation is important to maximize the response of crops with the efficient use of non-renewable natural resources, freshwater, and fertilizers, guaranteeing agro-environmental sustainability.
