Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The important contribution of the microbiome to the onset of diabetes has been established over the last decade based on several preclinical and clinical models of the disease. Seminal studies demonstrated that, depending on the antimicrobial used, diabetes mellitus onset could be accelerated or mitigated.

We would therefore like to focus this Special Issue on the following aspects:

  • Role of antimicrobials or antimicrobial-producing strains in introducing a shift in the microbiome, resulting in the onset or prevention of diabetes;
  • Role of antimicrobials on introducing a shift in the virome, resulting in the onset or prevention of diabetes;
  • Investigations on the role of a pro- or anti-diabetogenic diet on the efficacy of antimicrobials as modulators of diabetes onset/prevention;
  • New research in the area of antimicrobials and diabetes is welcomed.
