Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In this new period that is emerging for industry all over the world, novel technologies have to be developed and existing ones have to be optimized in terms of productivity and cost. Machining remains the key operation in the manufacturing industry, to achieve high productivity and precision for high-added-value parts in several sectors such as automotive, aeronautical, aerospace, biomedical, metrological, mechatronic, etc., and to ensure the durability of the machined structures. This Special Issue on the topic of “Aluminium Alloy Machining and its Applications” is oriented toward (but not limited to) the different strategies focused on increasing productivity and reliability in the removal processes of aluminium alloys, their machinability and controlling of the impact of the machining operation on the parts in-service life expectancy. The main topics of this Special Issue are the following:

  • Machinability;
  • Cutting mechanics models;
  • Experimental techniques for cutting mechanics and machining characterization;
  • Cutting/abrasive tools;
  • Machining strategies and process optimization;
  • Surface integrity characterization and modelling;
  • Impact of the process on static and fatigue performance of machined parts;
  • Unconventional machining processes (water jet cutting, electro-discharge machining…)
  • Machining of 3D printing manufactured parts;
  • Artificial intelligence and optimization techniques to improve process reliability;
  • Smart machining and in-process data analysis.

It is our pleasure to invite you to submit a manuscript for this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
