Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Semiconductor devices, which still monopolize our electronic technology, depend on the transport of quantum states similar to electrons in the presence of many-body interactions. Electron-phonon coupling is precisely the interaction of many bodies that occupies the most prominent position due to its contribution to the modulation or limitation of charge motility and / or spin transport.

Since Landau and Pekar laid the foundation for the problem in the early days of quantum mechanics, the theoretical study of polarons has already marked several epic chapters in theoretical physics. However, there are several aspects of the problem that are not well understood, especially in relation to spectral or dynamic structure, the role of spin-orbit coupling, spin itself, coupling to excitonic states, defects, and the role of electrons. electron coupling to mention a few of many.

At this very moment, the emergence of several new theoretical and experimental strategies are converging on a deeper understanding of this coupling and in recent years several new computational approaches have emerged that are really driving our understanding of this phenomenon. More specifically, from the theoretical side we have the Monte-Carlo diagram techniques, the Green function perturbation approaches, the direct strategies of super-cells, etc., and from the experimental side we have new spectral and / or direct probes dependent on the time available in a variety of systems such as hybrid perovskites, organic polymers and many 2D semiconductor systems such as dicaloenides or 2D systems such as graphene.

This special issue aims to address current problems in relation to electron-phonon interaction semiconductors, highlighting the latest scientific knowledge on the mechanisms involved in the formation of polarons, their physical properties and / or the experimental or theoretical technique to attack this problem. In other words, articles are welcome to deal with any new perspective, material system or theoretical approach in relation to electron-phonon interaction in semiconductors from theory or experiment.
