Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Within the European community, at all the institutional, industrial, and social levels, the attention toward the spread of the renewables, e.g., solar, wind, hydro, biomass, geothermal, and their rising incidence in the energy mix is increasing to mark the transition toward a long-term sustainable development based on green energies.

The seventh UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) aims to ‘Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all’, setting ambitious targets to achieve a more competitive, secure, and sustainable energy system by 2030. Global targets include:

  • Ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services;
  • Substantially increasing the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix;
  • Doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency;
  • Enhancing international cooperation to facilitate access to clean energy research and technology, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, and advanced and cleaner fossil-fuel technology, and promoting investment in energy infrastructure and clean energy technology;
  • Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to supply modern and sustainable energy services for all in developing countries, in particular the least developed countries, small island developing states, and land-locked developing countries, in accordance with their respective programs of support.

This new edition (Volume 2) of the Special Issue aims to gather papers on the current state of the art and relevant practical applications of the renewables held in the EU area matching the seventh SDG target. Contributions (original papers and review articles) from researchers and practitioners active in the fields of estimating, using, and managing renewable sources are welcomed and strongly encouraged.

We look forward to receiving your outstanding contributions.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
