Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Medicine progress and novel therapeutics have increased the number of women with serious medical problems who become pregnant. Sometimes, maternal chronic illnesses and health problems, especially cardiovascular and renal diseases, present a serious risk to both mother and fetus. Diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome are associated with a significantly higher risk of congenital malformations if these conditions are not adequately under control before and during pregnancy. Conversely, in some instances, pregnancy may adversely impact an underlying maternal medical disorder.

The aim of this Special Issue is to provide a review of pathogenesis and treatment in pregnant women with chronic illnesses with a particular emphasis on pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment opportunities.

Clinical researchers and practicing physicians are welcomed to submit their works that contribute to better pregnancy outcomes in women with internal diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, kidney and urinary tract diseases, endocrine and gastroenterological diseases, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, or rheumatological and neurological problems. Thus, all original articles or systematic reviews on topics related to pregnancy in women with other health problems are welcome in this Special Issue.

Topics will include:

Chronic diseases;

Prophylaxis, prognostic factors, and markers of internal, metabolic, and neurological diseases; Progression in pregnant patients;

Complications in pregnancy;

Molecular research in internal diseases in pregnant women;

Future directions in the field, including novel methods of diagnosis and treatment.
