Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Virtual Reality (VR) has gained popularity with the increase of technological trends in the last decade. In contrast to traditional interfaces, VR offers new forms of human-computer interaction (HCI) where users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds. The explosion of VR devices and the ever-increasing number of VR applications in the last five years have made VR technology a mainstream form of entertainment and have undoubtedly drawn the attention of researchers to its use in education. To this end, a new generation of VR authoring tools has been developed that enables instructional designers and VR developers to create immersive educational experiences with less effort and resources.

The main aim of this Special Issue is to gather cutting-edge research findings on the potentialities, affordances, and challenges of HCI application in VR educational environments and to capture insights and practical feedback from recent educational experiences. The focus is on the innovative use of HCI and VR technology in educational settings and covers issues related to the design, implementation, and use of educational VR applications.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Integration of VR in educational settings
  • Models of human-computer interaction in VR environments
  • VR-based HCI in education
  • Conceptual learning and HCI in VR
  • Immersive learning environments
  • Virtual reality and game-based learning
  • Models and practices with VR learning environments
  • Development and application of VR -based learning content
