Pain Management for Burn Injuries

We are honored to present this Special Issue of the European Burn Journal, dedicated to pain management in burn care settings. All submissions are peer reviewed, and accepted papers will be published immediately.

Assessment and treatment of pain constitute an integral part of the management of burn patients. Pain control is a major challenge in the management of patients with burn injuries. Burn patients experience pain during their injury, treatment, and recovery. Most of the existing therapeutic interventions in burn care are associated with pain, such as dressing changes, excision and grafting, or physiotherapy interventions. Uncontrolled pain is implicated in a variety of detrimental physiological effects, including delayed wound healing, delirium, posttraumatic stress disorder, disorientation and depression, which in turn may affect morbidity and length of stay, having a profound negative impact on socio-economic health. Therefore, appropriate pain management of burn patients is extremely important to optimum care of this specific population.

In this Special Issue, we would like to present clinically relevant updates for every aspect of pain assessment and management, including the assessment of pain, pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches for pain treatment, perioperative and procedural pain management, and chronic pain management. Experimental papers, research papers, up-to-date review articles, and commentaries are all welcome.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
