Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The energy sector is faced with various challenges, including financial viability, economic growth, environmental impact, operational characteristics, and construction lead-time. For instance, some energy technologies offer lower capital and operating cost at high emission rates, while others have higher associated costs but lower environmental impacts. In addition, there are other factors that should be taken into account when solving energy problems, such as intermittence of renewable energy, energy storage, electrification, conversion of surplus electricity to useful products through Power-to-X technologies, short- and long-term planning, interactions along supply chains, and other market considerations. Furthermore, there are different players involved such as utility companies, customers of different natures, regulatory bodies, and market operators. To take into account all of these complications, operations research (OR) techniques provide a rich set of tools to deal with these challenges in a creative and efficient manner and with tremendous economic benefits. The application of OR techniques has been very successful in the past in solving many problems arising in the energy sector and in providing competitive integrated solutions.

The aim of this Special Issue is to provide an opportunity for researchers to present both theoretical and applied research in the field of OR with applications in the energy sector. OR techniques include mathematical programming, bi-level and multicriteria optimization, fuzzy models, game theory, stochastic programming, data envelopment analysis, and multicriteria decision analysis.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
