Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The trend to reduce the consumption of conventional fuels, by increasing the efficiency of combustion engines that utilize fossil fuel alone, is contradicted by the near saturation levels of technological advancement. Therefore, at present it is necessary to look for new concepts of the driving units, using energy “carriers” other than the traditional fuels. The time has come to pursue independence from the “addiction” to fossil fuels and explore alternative energy resources that can be used on their own or in conjunction with conventional fossil fuels. Based on the backdrop of the looming fossil fuel crisis and increasing motorized emissions, alternative fuels are studied both because of their ecological effects and their costs, as a strategic alternative for the near future.

This Special Issue will provide an introduction to energy systems and renewable energy resources, with a scientific examination of the energy field; with an emphasis on alternative energy sources, their technology, and application in transportation. This Special Issue will explore society’s present needs and future energy demands; examine conventional energy sources and systems, including fossil fuels, and then focus on alternatives and renewable energy vectors.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Sustainable and renewable energy sources in transportation
  • Recent developments in combustion engines
  • Advanced emission control strategies
  • Modeling and simulation for sustainable transportation
  • Sustainable transportation, economics, and energy efficiency
  • Plug‐in electric and hybrid electric vehicles
  • New-generation transportation systems
  • Sustainable and novel energy technologies for transportation
  • Environmental impacts of alternative fuels
  • Policies for contemporary transportation
  • Electrification of heavy‐duty vehicles

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
