Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to publish your latest research results in this Special Issue of Energies on “Comprehensive Performance Test, Condition Monitoring, and Evaluation of DC Converter Valves”.

The use of HVDC transmission, including VSC-HVDC transmission, has grown rapidly throughout the world in the last decade. DC converter valves, which convert AC to DC and DC to AC, are a key component of HVDC transmission. They endure high hybrid voltage as well as high thermal stress in long-term operation, which may result in component failure, equipment breakdown, or even power system accidents. Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure the reliability of DC converter valves via health-state assessment.

However, DC converter valves are assembled using various kinds of components. The complexity of the system and component failure caused by different operation conditions create a significant challenge for the development of comprehensive performance test methods and the evaluation of DC converter valves. Bad electromagnetic circumstance also results in difficulties in online condition monitoring. However, thanks to recent progress and experience in sensors and measurement technology, there have been various new studies in the last few years on the comprehensive performance test, condition monitoring, and evaluation of DC converter valves. Furthermore, the wide application of artificial intelligence technology in fault diagnosis on power apparatus offers many innovative solutions to the issues surrounding DC converter valves.

This Special Issue will gather new research results and future trends in the field of comprehensive performance test methods and evaluation of DC converter valves, covering a broad range of topics of interest including but not limited to the following:

  • Aging methods, aging phenomena, and failure mechanism of key components in DC converter valves;
  • Comprehensive, efficient performance test methods and facilities for DC converter valves;
  • Condition-monitoring sensors, measurement, and parameter identification for DC converter valves;
  • Life forecast, health state evaluation for key components and DC converter valves;
  • The application of artificial intelligence in the state assessment of DC converter valves;
  • Maintenance and facility management of DC converter valves.

Review papers and articles based on multidisciplinary research are also encouraged.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
