Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The increasing requirements of transportation performance dictate the need to develop new technologies aiming to solve this need. Existing carrying vehicles including ground, marine, and air transport facilities mostly are based on the usage of different internal combustion engines. Such a situation was typical for the all 20th century and should be significantly changed due to the increasing influences of inevitable for this vehicle's harmful atmospheric and healthy effluences growing up at the alarming rate. Moreover, the use of combustion engines could not be principally apply in the underground and other new technologies (Maglev, Hyperloop etc.) requiring high energetic possibilities of driving systems and zero pollution.

The common solution to these problems is the electrification of transportation vehicles. We are aware of the transformation of ground vehicles to hybrid and fully electric cars. The railroad trains are already based mostly on the electrical drive. The progress is outlined in aviation and marine ships. However, a lot of obstacles are found on this road. The further advancement of electrified transport requires improvement of electrical storage facilities and batteries, the increase of specific power, efficiency, and durability of electric motors, control systems, and many other issues.

The new research works and investigation efforts are being carried out in the field with the intensive strive. Without any doubt, this is a promising direction and new important solutions and explorations would be expected as in the present time and in the future.

Owing to the requirements, of further spread of technologies for the transport electrification and methods for development electrical batteries, motors, control system related to their application, the Special Issue, entitled “Electrification of transportation systems and their applications”, was proposed for the international journal Energies, which is an SSCI and SCIE journal (2019 IF = 2.707). This special issue is aiming to cover original theoretical investigations and experimental studies related to the above-mentioned topics, including, but not limited to research and analysis of electrified transport with the different aspects of electricity storage, driving, and control systems. Papers selected for this special issue are subject to a rigorous peer-review procedure with the aim of the rapid and wide dissemination of research results, developments, and applications. I am writing to invite you to submit your original work to this special issue dedicated to electrified transportation including ground, and underground vehicles, aviation aircraft, and marine vessels and their existing and potential applications. The articles can be dedicated to the different aspects of the mentioned theme: electrical storage facilities, electric motors, and drive systems, control and exploitation in the present and future transport vehicles. I am looking forward to receiving your outstanding research.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
