Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Advanced renewable fuel technology development for green transport is essential to enable countries to meet global climate change objectives but is also a major contribution to these countries’ innovation, jobs, and growth agenda. The main challenge for advanced renewable fuel production is to satisfy global emission regulations while maintaining low-cost and sustainability. Especially for heavy-duty road transport, where a full transition to electric powertrain will be challenging in the foreseeable future, the development of advanced sustainable renewable drop-in fuels and energy-carrying molecules will be necessary to improve countries’ energy security by reducing their dependence on fossil fuels and natural gas. It should be emphasized that as the emission regulations become very stringent, the conversion of transport to natural gas is also becoming economically challenging. Thus, this Special Issue is encouraging researchers to address the technological advancements that have led to the development of novel approaches in the production of novel energy molecules and advanced renewable drop-in fuels. We are looking for contributions in the following areas: energy molecules for future heavy-duty transport, and advanced bio-, thermo-, and electro-chemical methods for the development of energy-carrying molecules, artificial intelligence and machine learning in novel fuel production processes, life cycle analysis, sustainability, and distribution of new energy-carrying molecules for heavy-duty transport.
