Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue is a collection of selected papers from “Ascona III: Advances in Clinical Measurement of Gastrointestinal Motility and Function”, which will be held in Switzerland on 12–17 July 2020.
Recent years have seen dramatic developments in the technology available for clinical investigation of swallowing, gastro-esophageal reflux, and digestive and continence function. The Ascona III Meeting will showcase developments in the wide range of investigations that are applied to identify the causes of symptoms related to disorders of gastrointestinal motility and function.
Highlights will include:
- Introduction of the first consensus classification for disorders of pharyngeal function
- Roll out of the Chicago Classification for Oesophageal Motility Disorders version 4.0 plus review of endo-FLIP and other advances
- Initial experience with the Lyon Classification Of Gastro-OEsophageal Reflux Disease
- State-of-the-art lectures focused on assessment of gastric emptying, intestinal motility and digestive function, with a particular focus on breath tests.
- Introduction of the London Classification for Disorders of Anorectal Function
The articles contained in the Special Edition will provide an expert overview of progress in the management of these conditions. Throughout the focus will be on clinical practice, highlighting how the information provided by advanced clinical measurement can establish definitive diagnosis and guide effective management.
