Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue will be dedicated to the management of thoraco-abdominal aneurysms as one of the most challenging pathologies in cardiovascular medicine, treatable only by intervention since there is not yet any available medication that prevents rupture of aortic aneurysms. Extending from the thoracic to the abdominal aorta, such a disease requires complex protection of most systems and organs of the human body during intervention, also demanding long-term patency of visceral, renal, intercostal, and iliac arteries.

In addition to the improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as well as anesthesia and critical care, perioperative mortality and morbidity after the treatment of thoraco-abdominal aneurysms are still significant. An additional challenge is the treatment of old, fragile, and high-risk patients. Consequently, the current treatment modality includes three options: standard open repair, total endovascular repair, and hybrid repair. The main aim of this issue is to define advantages and disadvantages, indications, and strategy of all therapeutic options.
