Tuberculosis and Mycobacteriosis

A section of Infectious Disease Reports (ISSN 2036-7449).

Section Information

Mycobacterial infections and diseases are highly incident and prevalent worldwide. Tuberculosis (TB), alongside HIV/AIDS and malaria, is one of the most frequent infectious diseases worldwide, causing suffering mostly in low-income settings.

The costs related to TB, including TB/HIV co-infection and multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB), can affect national and sub-national socio-economic systems.

Infections and diseases caused by non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) have increased globally: genetic, environmental, and systematic diseases can increase the risk of pulmonary and non-pulmonary disease.

Novel research efforts in the basic, translational, and clinical fields are needed to improve the current diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive tools.

Global and national public health strategies should be implemented and scaled up to decrease incidence and mortality of mycobacterial diseases.

The Section “Tuberculosis and Mycobacteriosis” is aimed at hosting evidence-based articles on diagnosis, therapy, prevention, and rehabilitation.

The following topics will be accepted:

  • TB epidemiology
  • TB and public health
  • TB diagnosis and therapy
  • TB vaccines
  • NTM infection and disease
  • NTM therapy
  • Pathogenesis of NTM disease
