Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Persons with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) show difficulties in social and emotional domains. Impaired recognition of emotional information, as conveyed by facial expressions, vocal cues or visual scenes, has been suggested as a possible causal mechanism. However, contrasting data are available, making this issue still open to debate. Several factors can account for inconsistences in literature, the most relevant ones are the developmental changes in the ability to process emotional information, in particular across childhood and adolescence, and the frequent co-occurrence of ADHD with other disorders that highly are associated to impaired emotion recognition, such as autism, conduct disorder or oppositional defiant disorder. Methodological factors, as the heterogeneity of tasks and measures used to assess emotion recognition, can also contribute to account for conflicting evidence. Papers addressing impaired emotion recognition in ADHD are invited for this Special Issue, in particular those tackling this issue in view of the reported complexities. Research papers embracing different methodological approaches and combining behavioral and brain activity measures are also welcome to this issue, as well as qualitative review and meta-analytic studies.
