Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Around the world, the rates of both domestic violence and substance use are increasing. These are both complex problems that frequently co-occur, and domestic violence outcomes can look very different depending on whether the substance use is by victims, perpetrators, or both partners in violent relationships. Since both substance use problems and domestic violence are most likely to transpire during reproductive and child-rearing years (defined as 15–49), many children are growing up in homes where these issues are present. While the overlap of substance use and domestic violence is well-documented, less is known about how children are impacted. More information is needed to understand how exposure to substance use and domestic violence affects the well-being of children.
