Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Food insecurity (FI), or the lack of sufficient food in quantity and/or quality owing to socioeconomic factors, is associated with obesity, adiposity, and poor cardiovascular health (CVH). While much empirical evidence supports the linkage between FI and adverse health outcomes, further investigations are needed to examine complex disparities in this relationship. Specifically, it is necessary to explore the intersectionality of FI with other social determinants, such as sex, race/ethnicity, or other socioeconomic indicators. Additionally, further research is needed to identify relevant mechanisms that link FI and compromised health. This may include nutritional, psychological, and physiological factors, and the potential interplay among these factors.

This Special Issue seeks research papers that investigate the link between FI and obesity, adiposity, or CVH to better elucidate the complexities that underlie this relationship. This includes research that focuses on health disparities driven by the intersection of FI with other social determinants, as well as research that identifies novel factors in the link between FI and poor health. We welcome original research papers using different study designs, such as observational studies using cross-sectional and longitudinal data or prospective intervention-based trials, as well as various types of review articles.
