Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are organizing a Special Issue on “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Wellbeing Science” in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. Wellbeing science focuses on identifying and promoting effective and sustainable ways of increasing emotion, literacy, cognition, physiology and behaviours that enable individuals, groups and communities to function well and contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of others and the broader society. Although a goal is to improve mental health, the emphasis is on promoting strengths, resources and capabilities for long-term wellbeing that is both localised and global. Contexts can include but are not limited to education, workplaces, sport and recreation and relationships, with a special interest in young people and vulnerable groups, particularly those most adversely affected by COVID-19.

Interdisciplinary and systemic approaches which are informed by collaborations from, for example, psychology, education, policy, economy, sociology, epidemiology, medicine, environmental science, policy and ICT are relevant. Interdisciplinary papers can include integrated theoretical approaches, varied research methods and measures as well as interventions that are informed by cutting-edge practices and approaches to wellbeing. Papers that demonstrate a greater capacity for positive impact on wellbeing as a result of interdisciplinary synthesis and contributions will be prioritised. Considerations of culture and submissions from multi-country collaborative work are encouraged. We will consider original research papers as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Employees’ engagement (EE) and well-being (WB) are considered two interesting issues by many scientific researchers and practitioners within organizations. Most research confirms a positive correlation between EE and WB. EE is an essential premise for specific dimensions of employees’ WB. At the same time, satisfied and physically and mentally healthy employees increase EE, both EE and WB thus being fundamental to individual and organizational performance. This paper aims to evaluate the relationships between EE and WB and between the dimensions of these two complex constructs. These relationships were assessed based on data obtained from a sample of 269 employees in Romania, using as a method a mix of analyses based on structural equation modeling (SEM) and artificial neural network analysis (ANN). The results highlighted a positive two-way relationship between EE and WB. Among the dimensions of EE, motivation and work environment are those that ensure a more pronounced perception of WB by the employee. Emotional WB, occupational WB, and social WB are the dimensions of WB with a significant influence on the general level of EE. Full article
