Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Increasing diversity in the research workforce is recognized globally as a strategy to respond to health disparities.

In preparing this Special Issue on “Research Workforce and Health Disparities”, we aim to learn from each other’s perspectives across the world in framing research strategies, models, concepts, initiatives, or outlooks to eliminate health disparities and reach health equity. We invite researchers to contribute their viewpoints, findings, creativity, and critical thinking to address health disparities going from a limited scope, as in rare diseases affecting smaller groups of people, to an extensive group, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or cardiovascular diseases, involving a large vulnerable population.

The members that make up the research workforce are responsible for moving along scientific knowledge to identify strategies that can eliminate health disparities. Their work can go from studies in genetic markers, lifestyles, nutrition, and environment to studying special populations’ needs, such as the homeless, deaf or blind, disabilities, disasters, mental health disorders, sexual violence survivors, etc. The research workforce aims to eliminate health disparities through prevention, early diagnosis or intervention, and treatment.

Therefore, we are looking for topics addressing diversity in the research workforce to eliminate health disparities, including multiple viewpoints, such as gender, sex, age, race, professional disciplines, community, individuals, cultural, and organizational.
