Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Poor mental health and substance misuse are global concerns, especially among children and youth. These conditions impact cognitive, emotional, and social development, which are vital during formative stages of life because they can have long-term implications that limit children and youth’s ability to lead fulfilling lives. Some negative consequences include, lower educational aspirations and attainment, continued substance misuse and cognitive impairment, limited employment opportunities, and increased likelihood of poverty.

Digital health innovations have considerable potential to minimize health inequities by not only understanding access gaps but also by making mental health and substance misuse services more accessible. Furthermore, digital healthcare can reduce social stigma by providing services and support via ubiquitous digital devices. This Special Issue calls for original research, systematic and scoping reviews, and evidence-based policy briefs that advance digital health solutions to address mental health and substance misuse among children and youth. The submissions can include research from the disciplines of clinical and social psychology, epidemiology, health promotion, and public health, among others.
