Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce this Special Issue entitled Advances in the Use of eHealth for Pain Management. This is a collection of important, high-quality papers (original research articles and comprehensive review papers) published in Open Access form by prominent scholars, following a peer-review process.

Pain has a terrible effect on those who suffer it, the people around them, and society in general. For this reason, adequately treating pain has been defended as a fundamental human right by various authors, and there is much written about effective interventions in the literature. However, the reality is that most people with chronic/recurrent pain problems do not receive effective interventions. This is also the case for acute pain, which is not addressed adequately in certain situations. There are various reasons for the difficulties in accessing effective interventions. For example, there are very few centers available, and health professionals only receive limited specific training on pain management. In these scenarios, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) represent a potential solution, since they can facilitate access to evidence-based interventions at an affordable cost. Furthermore, ICT can increase autonomy and empower the individual to seek resources on their own, thus making them more actively involved in their own care. The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on the need for and application of eHealth. Therefore, we welcome papers addressing this broad area.
