Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Environmental pollution has become a major global risk to health. According to WHO, air pollution, alone, is responsible for about seven million deaths worldwide, every year. Various pollutants like toxic gases, heavy metals, plastic, and radioactive residues are continuously introduced in the natural environment and negatively affect health by causing several types of damage. Several environmental pollutants have been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes including spontaneous abortion, prematurity, and stillbirth. Moreover, exposure to pollutants induces prenatal health issues such as anemia and toxemia, which might not necessarily cause premature termination but pose a severe lifelong threat to both mother and child wellbeing and, therefore, to the public health. This Special Issue will present a selection of recent research and current reviews on clinical and molecular aspects of pregnancy complications linked to exposure to environmental pollutants. We invite experts in the field to submit their reviews or original articles that critically assess and discuss the current state of the art in the highlighted topics.
