Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Policy-makers have begun to view inequalities as a salient factor of tobacco use behaviors. The fact that economic, race, and ethnic and gender inequalities are in the core of policy and media debates provides opportunities for tobacco researchers to affect policies by speaking directly on the role of inequalities in tobacco use behaviors. Research on how inequalities operate to affect tobacco use outcomes such as smoking, e-cigarette use, and nicotine dependence is needed to shape policies that will reduce the tobacco use inequities experienced by disadvantaged groups. We need to identify the disadvantaged groups that are more vulnerable to tobacco use and dependence and how the combination of multiples inequalities (e.g., unemployed Black and Latino living in poor communities) affects tobacco use. For this Special Issue, we invite original research papers on the effects of inequalities (e.g., economic, racial, ethnic, gender, geographic) on outcomes (e.g., initiation, use, cessation, and dependence) of the use of tobacco products (e.g., cigarettes, electronic delivery systems, smokeless tobacco, hookah, cigars).
