Special Issue "Nutritional and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Major Psychiatric Disorders"
Deadline for manuscript submissions: 31 July 2021.
Inflammation is a protective response against external damage or pathogens. However, changes in inflammatory cytokines and related biomarkers have been observed in patients with various psychiatric disorders including depression, dementia, schizophrenia spectrum disorder, and suicidal behavior disorder. Nutrition plays a critical role in proper functioning of the central nervous system and can influence mental health, as well as regulating inflammatory responses. Accordingly, the effects of supplementation with nutrients known to have anti-inflammatory properties, including vitamin E, folic acid, and n-3 fatty acids, on the prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders have been investigated.
This Special Issue will provide a forum for authors to share molecular and translational research on inflammation and nutrition conducted in laboratory and psychiatric clinical settings. Contributions can be either original research papers or review articles that provide a comprehensive overview of up-to-date literature. This Special Issue will facilitate the understanding of inflammation and nutrition as biomarkers for pathophysiology and clinical outcomes of major psychiatric disorders and will discuss challenges in their translational application in the psychiatric field.
