Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The pandemic crisis is accelerating the need for a more digitalized and green world. The European Commission is making a strong effort in this direction toward “the dual-transition for a more sustainable and digitalised recovery plan” (https://www.ceep.eu/the-place-of-the-eu-green-deal-and-digitalisation-in-the-eu-recovery/) identifying as objective the EU climate neutral by 2050.

The importance and urgency of addressing digitalization challenges jointly with the green deal and sustainability issues have been recognized by policymakers, industry, academia, and all societal actors.

ICTs and the digitalization process play a crucial role as an enabler for the whole economy in the green transition, implementing more sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. For this reason, the scientific community, companies, policymakers, and societal actors are interested in discussing and developing new theories, methods, models, and tools enabling a digitalization process that facilitates addressing green deal challenges.

We need to develop and adopt innovative and low-carbon digital solutions that on one hand enable ICT researchers and industry answering to the growing demand for digital services and on the other hand enable researchers and industry of other sectors to provide services with less CO2 emissions.

This Special Issue aims to cover theoretical aspects and applications of ICTs and the Green Deal; topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • New methodologies and models for data of resources management;
  • Smart infrastructures;
  • Industry 4.0;
  • Digitalization and circular economy;
  • Cloud services for the safe storage and sharing of data;
  • Reliable and energy-efficient cloud and edge infrastructures;
  • The Internet of Things (IoT) and green deal;
  • Digital social services;
  • Innovations to the market;
  • Impacts and new scenarios.

The goal of the Special Issue is to bring together interdisciplinary research dealing with Green ICT. The Special Issue welcomes theoretical and practical contributions as well as current trends, research challenges, and future developments.

There are some regions where the unique type of mineral water mining is compounded by the complex structure conditions of the field. Due to the high emergency risks, the automation of this type of mineral water fields’ exploitation process is a necessity. Kislovodskoe mineral water field was chosen as the experimental object, because it has a number of features that make it barely possible to use the conventional methods of mineral water extraction. In the process of extraction, the random vector impacts the mineral water pumping systems. This is mainly due to the complex hydrogeological structure. For the experiment, the laboratory installation and mathematical model were presented by the temperature field changing, due to the similitude of the mathematical apparatus and the hydrodynamic processes behavior,. The main object of this article is the analysis of the reservoir’s temperature field behavior using a hybrid supercomputer, and the differences between the supercomputer and a conventional personal computer modeling quality and implementation costs are also given.. The growing dissemination of digital technologies has had an incomparable impact on many dimensions of today’s civilisation. Digital transformation (DT) redefined the industrial structures and reinvented business models. Hence, in the face of Industry 4.0, financial and accounting services face new threats, challenges, and opportunities. How do the business players in the accounting sector perceive this phenomenon? This paper aims to answer this question by following a qualitative and exploratory approach, applied to three case studies, using semi-structured interviews. The study shows that although digital transformation in Portuguese small and medium-sized accounting service enterprises is just starting, Industry 4.0 technologies, optical character recognition (OCR), artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and enterprise resource planning (ERP) in the cloud were the technologies singled out by respondents. Resistance to change, organisational culture and price seem to be the main barriers to DT in accounting. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the role of accounting and accountants in organisations and society in the context of the digital era. Moreover, it provides practical insights into the potential relationship between technological (specifically digital) development and labour market dynamics for accounting professionals. Full article

This paper has introduced an algorithm for the identification of islanding events in the remotely located distribution grid with renewable energy (RE) sources using the voltage signals. Voltage signal is processed using Stockwell transform (ST) to compute the median-based islanding recognition factor (MIRF). The rate of change in the root mean square (RMS) voltage is computed by differentiating the RMS voltage with respect to time to compute the voltage rate of change in islanding recognition factor (VRCIRF). The proposed voltage-based islanding recognition factor (IRFV) is computed by multiplying the MIRF and VRCIRF element to element. The islanding event is discriminated from the faulty and operational events using the simple decision rules using the peak magnitude of IRFV by comparing peak magnitude of IRFV with pre-set threshold values. The proposed islanding detection method (IDM) effectively identified the islanding events in the presence of solar energy, wind energy and simultaneous presence of both wind and solar energy at a fast rate in a time period of less than 0.05 cycles compared to the voltage change rate (ROCOV) and frequency change rate (ROCOF) IDM that detects the islanding event in a time period of 0.25 to 0.5 cycles. This IDM provides a minimum non-detection zone (NDZ). This IDM efficiently discriminated the islanding events from the faulty and switching events. The proposed study is performed on an IEEE-13 bus test system interfaced with renewable energy (RE) generators in a MATLAB/Simulink environment. The performance of the proposed IDM is better compared to methods based on the use of ROCOV, ROCOF and discrete wavelet transform (DWT). Full article

This study aims to describe and analyze the paths of social media website users’ interaction with the content of government accounts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The objectives of the study are to describe the roles of government accounts as a tool to support the concept of health communication among users of social media websites and analyze the targeted and untargeted roles that have emerged in this context, describe the roles of government accounts as a tool of government communication and analyze how government institutions employed them during the COVID-19 pandemic, and describe the roles of social media websites as a tool to address the problems and challenges created by the social spacing procedures and solutions provided by these websites to deal with these challenges. This study surveys a sample of previous studies conducted on the roles of government accounts on social media websites during the COVID-19 pandemic. The tools of this study are both analytical and comparative as they analyze and compare the results of previous studies on the interaction paths of internet users. The results indicate that social media websites have been considered a pivotal tool for building a renewable and interactive system. This coincides with developments in the communication environment in which the individual is present within the social pattern, and its depth of impact has been demonstrated, particularly after the repercussions of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study is to synthesize the rapidly increasing literature on privacy and security risk of digital payment. By reviewing 591 studies, the literature on this topic was evaluated using a bibliographical approach to highlight the intellectual development of the field and recommend potential research directions in this still-emerging field. According to our assessment, academics have continued to focus on perceived privacy and security, while more multigroup analyses based on subdimensions of risk are needed. In addition, the vast majority of studies have not considered the inter-relationship between risk attributes. We analyse the potential causes of the lack of research diversity and provide additional suggestions to improve digital payment research in the future. This study will be valuable for academics, analysts, regulators, practitioners, and investors. Full article
