Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Bipolar disorders (BDs) encompass a broad range of heterogeneous conditions with different clinical and treatment-outcome features. Currently, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders poses emphasis on the prototypical Type-I and Type-II forms of BD. However, cyclothymia and the so-called “forme fruste” manifestations of the broad bipolar spectrum both account for a significant burden for those suffering and his/her caregivers. Cyclothymia and mixed features of either mania or bipolar depression deserve attention. The present Issue aims at promoting relevant contributions focusing either on the clinical psychopharmacology and epidemiology of any disorders included in the broad spectrum of BD. This is with particular emphasis on the use of atypical antipsychotics, standard mood stabilizers, ketamine, and neuro-modulatory interventions such as electroconvulsive therapy. High-quality longitudinal studies and rigorous meta-analytic systematic reviews are preferred.
