Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The interface of ports in modern supply chains has evolved to keep up with the changing expectations of end consumers and is affected by developments in political initiatives. While the performance of ports can no longer be measured as a standalone attribute isolated from the supply chains they are embedded in, supply chains are in turn influenced by developments in port management and strategy, as well as the efficiency of port operations.

In light of the changing buying behavior of end consumers, the dynamics between supply chain players, including the ports as critical nodes, have been transformed as current processes and performance are reevaluated. Hence, this calls for novel insights to help maintain a well-coordinated game plan for the industry to fulfill customer demand.

This Special Issue of Logistics focuses on the implications of the mutual interdependency between supply chains and ports in today’s climate. The implications are present in many aspects such as management, operations, manpower allocation, safety, security, efficiency, technology adoption, etc. Authors are cordially invited to submit original and high-quality research papers, review articles, and empirical studies to Logistics for the 30 April 2021 issue. The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Port management/strategy for sustainable supply chains
  • Collaborations between supply chain players and ports in a circular economy
  • Impact of new supply chain technologies on port operations/management
  • Effects of emerging supply chain trends on port performance/management
  • Evolving port strategies in today’s supply chain landscape
  • Real-world implementation and/or adoption of emerging technology in port-logistics sector
  • Smart ports and supply chains
