Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Despite advances in cancer therapy, metastasis remains the leading cause of death in cancer patients. There is growing evidence that migration and invasiveness of cancer cells represent a major problem for bad prognosis in cancer patients. One of the goals of cancer research is to identify and study the mechanisms of action of bioactive compounds that can abate the spread of highly malignant cancer cells to provide potential new biological tools to improve therapies for long-term survival in cancer patients.

It is now well known that the marine environment is an excellent untapped source of bioactive compounds given its enormous biodiversity. Scientific research has long drawn from the sea the most diverse entities with numerous potentialities for human health.

This Special Issue intends to collect original articles of in vitro and/or in vivo research on the role of marine compounds against the migration and invasiveness of cancer cells, and against the formation of metastases. Topics covered will include the study of intracellular and extracellular signaling mechanisms through which marine compounds modulate the process of cancer cell migration, invasion and/or adhesion, as well as the study of their effects on the cytoskeleton and cell membrane. Scientific works dealing with molecules and/or extracts from marine organisms and/or microorganisms are considered. Reviews summarizing the roles of marine anticancer compounds with identified roles against cancer cell migration and invasiveness are welcome. It is required that the authors give detailed information on the origin of the marine compound being treated; compounds not directly isolated, but provided by companies, are accepted as long as the marine origin and purity of the compound are clear and well described.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Marine Drugs is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
