Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Since the first isolation of graphene and the revelation of its outstanding optical, electrical, and mechanical properties, there has been tremendous research interest in two-dimensional (2D) materials. The unique properties of graphene and related 2D materials offer an abundance of opportunities for next-generation applications and technologies. These 2D materials can be exfoliated from their parent-layered materials through low-cost, mass production methods via solution processing. While several deposition techniques exist for solution-processed 2D materials, printing holds a specific promise for high-volume, low-cost manufacturing.

The field of printed electronics and energy storage devices has been developing rapidly, driven by different printing techniques offering low-cost and simple methods for device fabrications, while demonstrating compatibility with most substrates, including those that are flexible and wearable. For complex electronic systems, various solution-processed materials (or inks) are needed to realize diverse functional components, including electrical wires, resistors, dielectrics, and semiconductors. Beyond the printing of specific patterns or features, formulated inks can also be used for functional coating, expanding the scope of low-cost, high-speed, and high-throughput application development.

The aim of this Special Issue is to present recent developments and advances in graphene and other 2D-materials-based functional inks. Our objective is to highlight a collection of research and review articles that report the latest developments and trends in solution-processed 2D materials, ink formulations, printing techniques, and applications to a wide audience of chemists, physicists, engineers, and material scientists who work in this area.

It is my pleasure to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue entitled “Advances in Printing Graphene and Other 2D Materials”. Full papers, communications, and review articles are all welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
