Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electrochemical devices can be found in top-of-the-range areas such as electrical energy production, conversion and storage, microelectronics, medicine and bioengineering, and even in large power electrical equipment. The strong trend of developing equipment with autonomous pollution-free energy sources, such as wireless communication devices and electric vehicles, leads to the need to develop highly efficient batteries and fuel cells. Dual function electrochemical devices with ion gel, which fulfill both energy storage and light emission, are also reported. When operated in an energy storage mode, these devices show a huge specific capacitance of about 2 mF/cm2. Under an alternative current, the same devices emit light through electrochemical reactions.

High sensitivity and selectivity electrochemical sensors are another very important topic in the area of electrochemical devices, with applications in high-tech industrial equipment, the monitoring of power equipment, and many applications in the field of medical engineering (biosensors).

All of this justifies the permanent concern for the development and innovation in the area of electrochemical devices. These involve, on the one hand, the development of new materials with customized properties specific to each application, and, on the other hand, the development of more advanced technologies that allow for the manufacture of increased efficiency electrochemical devices.

This Special Issue will focus on improved materials used in electrochemical devices, such as advanced battery, fuel cell, electronics, and sensors (electrodes and supporting substrates, materials for improved sensitivity and selectivity, and biological recognition elements). New applications of electrochemical devices will also be well received for publication.

We kindly invite you to submit a manuscript(s) for this Special Issue. Full papers, communications, and reviews are all welcomed.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
