Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Metal additive manufacturing is reaching higher and higher maturity, and this is strongly linked to an increase in the number of metallic materials that can be successfully processed with these technologies.

The design of new alloys specifically tailored for these processes is fundamental to exploit their potential. In addition to metallic alloys, nanocomposites with a metallic matrix represent a viable solution to enhance mechanical properties, functionality, and thermal stability of high-performance components.

The current Special Issue is focused on the latest developments in innovative metallic materials and nanocomposites with metallic matrices for additive manufacturing.

Works on the various aspects involved in the manufacturing of these novel materials are welcome. These include aspects related to both feedstock material production and 3D printing/processability of these materials into bulk parts. All the technologies belonging to the large family of additive manufacturing are of interest, ranging from powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition technologies to binder jetting, drop-on-demand deposition, etc.

Microstructural studies based on characterization methods, including various microscopy techniques (light, electron, etc.) and analysis (microanalysis, X-ray diffraction, etc.), are welcome. The experimental investigation of mechanical properties, wear behavior, and/or corrosion resistance is of utmost interest, given that the influence of the microstructure or processing history or application is described. Works on the optimization of heat treatments and post-processing for innovative materials or nanocomposites are also welcome.

Studies on metamaterials or functionally graded materials will also be considered.

The aim is to publish state-of-the-art papers on the development of innovative materials for additive manufacturing and the relevant characterization.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
