It is a great pleasure for me to invite you to submit a manuscript to the Special Issue "Metal–Support Interactions", which will be published in the journal Metals.
This Special Issue targets interdisciplinary state-of-the-art research articles, communications, and reviews related to various aspects of the synthesis, characterization and application of materials based on metal nanoparticles supported on or encapsulated into diverse matrices (carbon, polymer, zeolite, oxide, and composites). The specific focus of the Special Issue is the interactions between the metal and the support, which is size-dependent and may be quite different depending on the nature of the support/matrix. Indeed the support may be an insulator like SiO2, a semiconductor like TiO2, a conducting material like carbon, or another metal (foils, for instance). Thus the support affects the electronic state of the supported metal, causing electron transfer to or from metal nanoparticles via the metal–support interactions. The influence of the support on the properties of the supported metal is quite well-documented in the literature, although with the trend toward more and more complicated materials, including core–shell nanoparticles and the appearance of novel supports such as metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and the like, there is room for future research. The other side of this metal–support interaction is the effect of the metal on the properties of the support. There are limited publications focused on this aspect. Advanced architectures provide a driving force for progress in diverse research areas, including the development of new nano-engineered catalysts and adsorbents, smart and stimuli-responsive materials, sensors, as well as materials for energy applications (harvesting and storage). This Special Issue will show the progress and reveal new aspects in the broad field of metal–support interactions. Combining individual contributions from these areas will allow us to produce a journal issue with a high impact. Thus, submissions focused on any materials and their novel applications that disclose new manifestations of metal–support interactions are cordially invited.
Please note that Metals is an open access journal, and the whole Special Issue will be freely available for all readers across the world. Information about open access options and conditions is provided on the journal website.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
