Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Carbon-based materials are relatively abundant and universal on Earth as compared to other elements or composites. Various carbon-based materials with micro- and nano-structures have been successively developed with cost-effective and easy production for optoelectronic applications. These carbon-based materials exhibit large thermal conductivity and high thermodynamic stability to allow high-optical-power operation with low damage. Because of these advantages, carbon-based materials are utilized as saturable absorbers for mode-locked lasers. Mode-locked lasers significantly impact academic and industrial research applications. They have been comprehensively applied to various fields for optical high-speed communications, biophotonic and biomedical imaging, high-speed sensing and detection, chemical/physical/material dynamic analyses, and semiconductor processing for developments of future technologies. At present, studies related to mode-locked lasers using micro- or nano-carbon-based saturable absorbers are still being reported.

This Special Issue aims at presenting original state-of-the-art research articles on carbon-based mode-locked fiber lasers and their applications. Researchers are invited to submit their contributions to this Special Issue. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Carbon nanotubes;
  • Graphene;
  • Graphene oxide;
  • Graphite;
  • Charcoal;
  • Carbon black;
  • Diamond;
  • Saturable absorbers;
  • Nonlinear dynamics;
  • Mode-locked lasers;
