Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The field of microrobotics has experienced important recent advances that include the development of untethered insect scale machines capable of autonomous navigation, the use of highly efficient forms of energy storage, and the development of new actuators and sensors, to mention a few.

Several applications of microrobots have been proposed, these include disaster exploration, medical uses where microrobots can operate inside the human body, manufacturing at small scales, manipulation of very small objects, and other uses where high precision is required.

In this Special Issue, we would like to cover specific applications of micro robots (up to palm size) for industrial inspection. We are especially interested in studies where micro robots are used to monitor critical variables that can be related to the operation of industrial assets, industrial processes, or industrial machinery.

Examples of potential applications include the inspection of the interior of engines, small pipelines, accessing through narrow vents to regions that cannot be reached with other technologies. We welcome work related to the development of new sensors that can have industrial applications and can serve as payload for microrobots.

We are also interested in the miniaurization of sensors that are commonly used for industrial inspection such as UT, Eddy Current, MFL, so they can eventually become payloads of very small robots.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Micromachines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
