Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nanosensors and sensing probes are sensing devices of high sensitivity, selectivity, and diversity. Nanoscale systems have received much attention in recent years because of their innovative and versatile applications. Nanotechnology is an area of growing interest and opens up numerous possibilities for monitoring physical and chemical phenomena, detecting chemical/biochemicals, or measuring nanoparticles in the environment.

This Special Issue will focus on the design, synthesis, characterization, and applications of nanoscale systems. Emphasis is placed on nanostructures and macromolecules with potential use as nanosensors, either of molecules, processes, catalysis or diagnosis. We invite investigators to contribute short communications, full research articles, and reviews that are related with any aspect of nanoscale sensing devices. We look forward to receiving your manuscript.

Aptamers are artificial nucleic acid ligands that have been employed in various fundamental studies and applications, such as biological analyses, disease diagnostics, targeted therapeutics, and environmental pollutant detection. This review focuses on the recent advances in aptamer discovery strategies that have been used to detect various chemicals and biomolecules. Recent examples of the strategies discussed here are based on the classification of these micro/nanomaterial-mediated systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) platforms into three categories: bead-mediated, carbon-based nanomaterial-mediated, and other nanoparticle-mediated strategies. In addition to describing the advantages and limitations of the aforementioned strategies, this review discusses potential strategies to develop high-performance aptamers. Full article
