MTI 2022 Best Paper Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the “Multimodal Technologies and Interaction 2022 Best Paper Award” for research and review articles published in Multimodal Technologies and Interaction (MTI) from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022. One paper will receive the award. The paper will be selected after a thorough evaluation by the journal Award Committee led by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Mark Billinghurst and Co-Editor-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Cristina Portalés Ricart. The winner will be announced on 30 April 2024.
Eligibility for the Award:
–– Papers published in Multimodal Technologies and Interaction from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022;
–– Open to all career levels;
–– Both regular and Special Issue submissions will be considered.
Selection Criteria:
The papers will be selected by the journal Award Committee according to the following criteria:
–– Scientific merit and broad impact;
–– Originality of the research objectives and/or the ideas presented;
–– Creativity of the study design or uniqueness of the approaches and concepts;
–– Clarity of presentation;
–– Citations and downloads.
The Prize:
–– CHF 500;
–– A chance to publish a paper free of charge in Multimodal Technologies and Interaction in 2024 after peer review;
–– A certificate.
The winner will be announced on the journal website on 30 April 2024.

MTI 2022 Best PhD Thesis Award
Dear Colleagues,
As the Editor-in-Chief of Multimodal Technologies and Interaction (MTI), it is my great pleasure to announce the winner of the MTI 2022 Best PhD Thesis Award. This award is for a PhD student or recently qualified PhD who has produced a highly anticipated thesis with great academic potential.
The award has been granted to:
“Understanding the Design of Playful Gustosonic Experiences” By Yan Wang, Monash University, Australia.
The winner will receive CHF 500, a certificate, and a chance to publish a paper free of charge after peer review in MTI in 2023.
On behalf of the evaluation committee, I would like to congratulate the winner on their accomplishments. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the applicants for submitting their exceptional theses and the Award Committee for voting and helping with this award.

MTI 2018 Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2018 Travel Award sponsored by Multimodal Technologies and Interaction:
The Travel Award has been granted to Dr. Kate Cowan, a Research Associate at UCL Knowledge Lab, Institute of Education, University College London, UK
Dr. Kate Cowan is an ambitious, early career researcher with outstanding academic and research track records. Her PhD thesis is entitled ‘Visualising Young Children’s Play: Exploring Multimodal Transcription of Video-recorded Interaction’. This research, funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (2012-2015), was linked to the prominent ‘MODE Project: Multimodal Methodologies for Researching Digital Data and Environments’ directed by Professor Carey Jewitt at UCL Knowledge Lab. Her current research focuses on children’s playful interactions and the role of new technologies. Among other merits, she is the lead researcher on ‘Valuing Young Children’s Signs of Learning’ with Dr. Rosie Flewitt, funded by the Froebel Trust (2017-2018), and an ethnographer on ‘Playing the Archive: Memory, Community and Mixed Reality Play’ funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (2017-2019), directed by Professor Andrew Burn and Professor Jackie Marsh.
The award consists of 800 Swiss Francs to attend an academic conference in 2018.
