Dear Colleagues,

Process intensification (PI) is considered one of the most valuable development pathways for the industry, leading to increased efficiency, higher yields, plant-size decreases, better process safety implementations, lower cost as well as minimization of waste at the source, which leads to reduced environmental pollution. PI is capable of fulfilling these needs and has become fundamental to the sustainability of production processes due to the increasing global demand for space, energy, health, environment and more “green” technology. 

In further detail, PI appears to be an interesting and outbreaking concept for nanoparticles and nanomaterials production processes. The concept design, development, implementation, validation, construction, control or use of novel PI equipment is welcome. These devices are able to uptake research and process development at the laboratory scale but can reach productivity levels that have exciting potential for industrial use. Intensified biotech processes are considered part of this framework. 

The PI philosophy is entirely in line with green chemistry principles, leading to a fruitful possibility of synergy between the two research fields in nanoparticles production processes and applications. 

In this Topical Collection, interested researchers from the fields of Engineering, Chemistry, Physics and Biotech are invited to submit original research papers, as well as review articles, on any topics related to the production of nanoparticles, inorganic, organic or nano-composites, by means of the technology or equipment proper of process intensification and green chemistry field. The submitted papers may report both experimental and modeling studies of novel processes or equipment, or new case studies performed via well-known intensified process technologies. These works may focus not only on production but may also include application experiments of the synthesized nanomaterials.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the collection website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Nanomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
