Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Global change is known to affect the World's oceans, enclosed, and semi-enclosed seas to a large extent, and as such, their monitoring is of key importance for a better understanding of the very processes that result from the changing climate, that may trigger it, or that act as indicators for it, on regional and global scales. Various national and international research efforts have been undertaken, with the main focus put on advanced technologies that are deployed to study, and to monitor, the marine environment at scales ranging from centimeters to several thousand kilometers. These advanced technologies may include new sensors and algorithms, new parameters derived from the wealth of data obtained, but also new processing techniques, including Machine Learning, that allow an effective use of Big Data.

This Special Issue addresses new, advanced and challenging technologies that allow for an improved monitoring of the marine environment, thereby focussing on state-of-the-art techniques that will help in furthering our knowledge about the oceans, their various interactions with the land and atmosphere, and their role in a changing world. Original research articles and reviews are welcome, whose research topics may include, may are not limited to:

  • Marine field campaigns;
  • Laboratory experiments;
  • Oceanic surface processes;
  • Big Data analyses;
  • Air-sea interactions;
  • New sensors;
  • Ocean currents and waves;
  • Target detection.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Oceans is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
