Plant Breeding Innovation Showcase

Climate change, a growing world population and increasing land use intensity have applied unprecedented stress on the global agricultural industry. Furthermore, the universal move towards green renewable energy and away from petroleum-based materials demands further functionalization of plants. Innovative plant breeding has thus become vitally important in response to the present and anticipated future needs of humans. This innovation showcase will provide a forum for the exchange of the latest research and technological innovations in the plant breeding field, focusing on the most impactful technologies currently under development.

This event aims to:

  • Highlight innovative technologies in both academia and the industry;
  • Provide meaningful networking opportunities for showcase participants;
  • Encourage and support pioneering approaches among young researchers.

We are now accepting abstracts for both oral presentations and posters for this exciting event. The majority of scientific talks will be selected from submitted abstracts. There will be a total of 20 oral presentations; however, all applicants will have the opportunity to present their research via a virtual poster session and interact with interested parties.

CONFIRMED KEYNOTE SPEAKERS INCLUDE:

  • John Bradshaw: Plant breeder and geneticist. Co-ordinating Editor of Potato Research, the Journal of the European Association for Potato Research. Author of "Plant Breeding: Past, Present and Future".
  • Petra Jorasch: Manager of Plant Breeding Innovation Advocacy at Euroseeds. Internationally recognized expert on IP, biotech patent law and seed policy frameworks.
  • Patrick Byrne: Plant breeding and genetics researcher. Professor of crop and soil sciences. Author of "Crop Wild Relatives and Their Use in Plant Breeding'', among other educational material on conservation and plant genetic resources.
  • Peter Van Esse: Principal Investigator of the 2Blades group at the Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) in Norwich and Vice President of the 2Blades Foundation.
