Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Environmental monitoring applications are in urgent demand in the face of the current climate crisis. Automation and intelligent systems play a pivotal role in developing systems that can assist in a multitude of areas that require prevention, detection, or monitoring tasks that may be onerous, difficult, or hazardous when performed by humans.

In this context, sensor networks and mobile robotics can lead to the emergence of autonomous environmental monitoring systems. This Special Issue focuses on cooperative sensing approaches that can leverage intelligent sensor techniques, ranging from networks of cyber-physical systems based on static sensors to multi-robot systems with networks of robots. Approaches may include a broad array of remote sensing techniques and sensor or in-situ measurement methods.

This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, theoretical innovations, reviews, and applications to a relevant environmental field, such as forestry and agriculture, wildfire management, ocean observation, polar exploration, or search and rescue (SAR) and disaster response to natural hazards such as floods, radioactive environments, landslides, or avalanches. The range of applications extends to the general exploration of planetary bodies and space robotics.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
