Special Issues, Collections and Topics in MDPI journals
It is well acknowledged that one of the most thrilling developments in modern surgery is the advent of skull base surgery. Technological advancements in rhinology and otology have revolutionized the management of skull base lesions, benign and malignant tumors, vascular pathology, and trauma. The narrow confines and the vital vascular and neural structures lying in the skull base region have boosted the fine tuning of minimal invasive endoscopic or microscopic approaches. New surgical techniques, along with technological innovations, have made bone removal, soft tissue elimination and reconstruction of the skull base much more effective. Following tumor removal, the reconstruction of the floor between the intracranial cavity and extracranial compartments is of extreme importance. Experts in the field are encouraged to share their experiences and discuss surgical approaches to the challenging management of skull base pathology and skull base reconstruction.
