Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The transportation sector is facing a revolutionary transformation thanks to emerging technologies. While providing novel opportunities to improve the current transportation infrastructures and presenting novel modes of mobility as a service, emerging technologies can also introduce new challenges to the transportation systems. To ensure a smooth transformation, sustainability and resilience aspects should be introduced to the transportation infrastructures.

Given the above motivations and context, this Special Issue “Emerging Technologies and Mobility as a Service in Sustainable and Resilience Transportation Infrastructures” aims to collect contributions addressing, in particular, the following research questions:

  • What are the new opportunities and challenges in transportation systems transformed by emerging technologies?
  • How can we provide ideal response plans for challenges of the current and future transportation infrastructures?
  • How can emerging technologies affect mobility as a service in the transportation sector?
  • What are ideal ways to introduce resiliency and sustainability in different aspects of transportation infrastructures?

Scope of the Special Issue:

This Special Issue particularly welcomes papers that cast a light on scenarios where challenges and opportunities are introduced by emerging technologies to the transportation infrastructures and how the resiliency and sustainability of these infrastructures can be improved. Topics considered for this issue include, but are not strictly limited to, the following:

  • Emerging technologies in public transit
  • Transportation infrastructure transformation in intelligent transportation systems (ITS)
  • Mobility as a service in the transportation sector
  • Sustainable and resilience transportation infrastructures
  • Emerging technologies and advanced traffic management
  • Disruption management in the transportation sector
  • Human behavior and resiliency in transportation systems
  • Resilient transportation network modeling

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
