Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

COVID-19 has profoundly impacted how we move and gather. Learning to live with COVID-19, its mutations and successors, is a new variable in how we (re-)design resilience into both our existing and new communities, cities and transport networks. At the same time, integrated planning of transport and land-use needs to deliver clean air in the near term and net zero greenhouse gas emissions in the long term.

This Special Issue is focused on real-world case studies demonstrating research that addresses one or more of these combined challenges. Examples include technology and/or policy interventions in active transport infrastructure, public transport, freight, building design and refurbishment, the interface of energy and transport networks, digital twins, urban-/land-use planning, and the natural environment.

Authors should clearly identify the following:

  • The novelty of their approach;
  • The scale of the impact, while testing for sensitivity and accounting for uncertainty;
  • How unintended consequences and problem shifting may be accounted for and mitigated;
  • Gaps in technology or policy necessary to deliver the research outcomes; and
  • The relevance of the research outcomes to other cities.
