Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The global challenges of climate change mitigation & adaptation in the context of post-Pandemic recovery have placed a new focus on the sustainability of the food system. Organic & agri-ecological systems have always prioritised the importance of localised food systems, resilience in the use of resources & co-production of new knowledge. The social aspects of organic and agroecological food systems remain understudied.

This special issue will focus on how a more comprehensive understanding of the social aspects of the organic food chain - from fork to farm. Topics of interest include; efforts to localise food retailing and logistics, including questions of demand and motivation, the role of technology in mediating and brokering between farmers, growers, retailers and citizen-consumers. How farmers and growers are innovating and generating new knowledge in partnership with others. As well as the role of organic and agroecological discourses in debates about climate change, the future of meat, farmland conservation and food policy are also welcome. Contributions from geographical areas not yet present in the literature are particularly welcome. Papers can be theoretical or grounded in the field. The intention is to create a special issue that pushes the agenda on these urgent matters forward in a rigorous but accessible form that will help thought leaders and decision-makers at all levels.

I would really welcome your contributions, and if you have any questions about taking part please contact me.

Best wishes
