Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The aim of this Special Issue is to provide a broad overview of the available and innovative sustainable solutions for global agricultural sustainability and food security. Those solutions involve practices, systems, technologies, and approaches to food production and consumption that do not compromise the availability and quality of natural resources and healthy food for future generations. This is essential for human wellbeing, poverty reduction, and sustainable development and to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including eradication of hunger and poverty, clean water, sustainable land use, responsible production and consumption, mitigation of climate change, and sustainable life on land and water.

Evidence regarding the potential of available and innovative solutions for agricultural sustainability and food security is of utmost importance for decisions makers and policy makers, to allow the strategic planning of the required changes in the use of land, surface, and ground water, energy usage, and types of energy production to reduce the impacts of and on agricultural production. Ultimately, this would prevent conflicts in allocation of land, water, and energy among agricultural sectors, while ensuring the availability of food or sufficient food production and access to nutritious food to the global population.

This Special Issue calls for sound research studies, with no methodological restriction, which explore available and innovative solutions for agricultural sustainability and food security, discuss the pathways and challenges to their implementation and diffusion in different geographical and social contexts, identify the trade-offs between the different dimensions of sustainability, and analyze relevant policy and market instruments.

The Special Issue is open to transdisciplinary contributions from different disciplines, such as economics, management, sociology, statistics, agricultural and environmental science, and others.
